We had heard there was going to be a huge snowstorm coming in, but we weren't sure if it would actually happen, as we rarely get snow. I realized that a huge snow storm to others may be a LOT bigger than our snowstorm, but also realize that we are in no way prepared for snow. Our city has one snowplow, which means about 5% or less of our city gets plowed. We have NO snow shovels, we are all shoveling our drive ways with garden shovels. Our neighborhood and side streets aren't plowed, leaving the city just about shut down. Hilarious? Yes. Necessary? Most definitely.
I do remember growing up, every few years we had a snow storm and everything was cancelled and/or shut down. These are some of my fondest winter memories. And this storm was no different.
Thursday
The snow started to fall Thursday afternoon. Otis all morning just hadn't been himself, I was assuming it was his ears again. Once it started snowing, I realized that I had better take him in, cause most likely his pediatrician would be out all weekend due to the snow. Jay was sent home from work due to the snow starting to fall and I so I called Otis' pediatrician and they had an opening. YAY! Jay took him in and sure enough, he had another double ear infection. :( This would make 3 double ear infections in less than 3 months. Jay quickly stopped at the pharmacy on his way home and picked up his antibiotics and he came home safely.
My poor boy :(
Watching the snow fall!
It very rare when this girl falls asleep...
Friday
We woke up to a lot of snow (for us) and the kids all got dressed in their snowsuits and went out and played. They build a snowman.. kind of. they went sledding and they all took turns skiing down the hill and Otis and I watched from the bedroom window. :) Otis was still stick, so sadly... he didn't get to play in his first snow storm. Todd and Jacki piked up Avie around 2:00 and it was just our family. We had a wedding Friday night, Jay's sister was getting married. We were hoping the temperatures wouldn't drop so that the snow wouldn't freeze and we could make it and our prayers were answered. We made it just fine and it was a great time. I have pictures of that in another post. We made it home from the wedding and it was starting to snow again.

Saturday
Saturday we woke up to even more snow! We baked some goods, we played in the snow, played games, watched movies.... it was an excellent day!
Then the freezing rain came in... EVERY WHERE there was ICE!
Baths before bed
Sunday
Church was canceled, obviously. :) So it was anther snowed in day as a family. What more could we ask for? :) Otis started to feel better on this day and all was right in the world.

Monday
Monday, the snow had already started to melt. We managed to get out of our neighborhood and picked up some lunch and went to a friends house who made this giant igloo. This igloo took 3 adult men 5 hours to make. Men will always be boys, right? :) It was pretty sweet and Jay REALLY wanted to sleep in there with the kids that night. But I'm a scaredy cat and Jay most likely had to work the next day. The kids however, LOVED this igloo and didn't want to leave.

By Monday evening, the snow was nearly melted and the roads were fine and life went on. I can't tell you how much, we as a family enjoyed this weekend. We got lots of family time with no interruptions, no where to be, no obligations. It was perfect!
It a very rare thing that Jay isn't busy with work, school and church callings... so this was a BIG treat for us. We had him all to ourselves for 4 whole days. :) What a weekend! And one we'll always remember.
