Poor San Joaquin

Yesterday Jay came home with Joaquin from work and we noticed Joaquin looked a bit different. He started scratching his face against the floor through out our apartment and then a little bit later his face started swelling, cheeks drooping and his eyes were all red, swollen and watery. He started looking like a different breed. We called some vets, but everyone was closed but one guy told us to give him some benadryl. So we went to the store and tried to give him the tablets but of course he didn’t want to eat them.... Joaquin eats anything from napkins to our dead foot skin that you peel off from a blister... but he won’t eat a little pink pill. Long story short.... we outsmarted him by mixing the pills with his treats, and he ate the pill. He's looking better today, although his cheeks and mouth are still swollen.... but his eyes look much better and he doesn’t look as miserable.

So here are some pictures... we felt so bad for him

We think he was bit by something or stung by a bee... we don't know what. Jay works up past Park City on a mountain where lots of things are possible. We were a bit worried about him (just remember that we're still new to the whole dog thing) but after talking to a few people it seems as though this is a normal reaction to being stung. We're just glad he's doing better and hopefully by tomorrow he'll be back to normal.

We'll keep ya posted the poor little guy. Oh' and we leave for El Salv in 2 weeks. Woohoo!
Take care, Heath & Jaylo

Man that is crazy!! He does look like a miniature horse in that picture...miss you guys!! Oh yeah...Julz had an allergic reaction to shell fish the other day!! She had to call 911 and be rescued...she's fine now though!! Her hubby was in Utah, so she was home alone when it happened....

That is so sad! Poor puppy... that breaks my heart. Tobi got stung by a bee when he was two months old and we had to take him to the emergency vet because he was so small. I remember how freaked out I was. I think they had to give him a steroid shot in addition to the Benadryl. Hope he gets better soon!!

You guys do worry about your dogs. Interesting event in your lives though. Keep us posted about your getting ready for your trip. We are excited for you. Your Mom can hardly stand it. She wants to be a mouse in your pocket during your trip. Dad

I've never seen anything like that. Poor little dog. I guess it makes sense though. When I get stung, my limbs swell up like the marshmellow man so why shouldn't his face do the same?

Poor, Poor dog :( He looks so sad. I'll bet he was itching like crazy, no wonder he was scratching his face all over the floor. Poor dog. I feel so bad for him. Wish you were here and Abuella could pamper him and take care of him! :) Hope he is doing better by now. We're excited for your trip. Have you deceided what all you are going to take? Good thing Jay has been there so he can help with the packing. Don't forget Madre wants a little something from there :) heeheehee! Who would have thought Benadryl for a dog! No chocolate, but benadryl, Hum. Si ti amo, siempre. Mamacita.
